Wellness - Celebrating Father's Day

Have you been searching for that just right gift for your husband for Fathers Day? Found the right gift but can't find the perfect card? Haven't figured out what you plan to do for Father's Day but it's on your list of to dos? Or, you haven't even thought that close ahead yet?! Don't fret! I too have been stumbled before for Father's Day and you would think we wouldn't be since this day is all about the men we love and fathers of our children! However, with life, it happens!

Here's a solution, write a letter! Not an email, text, or typed letter and printed. I mean a handwritten letter. Find a sheet of lined paper from your kids' notebook or use printer paper. Go a step further and find a nice blank card and write your letter inside. Men are different from women. He would love the fact that you took the time to write a special note of acknowledgement on your love for him and how much of a great father he is. This is a mental and spiritual exercise for you as a mother and wife to stop for a moment and put his side into perspective.

Think about finishing these statements in your letter:
Dear _______,
Thank you for being such a wonderful father to our child(ren). Our child(ren) ______________.  I have seen you ___________. They have seen you _______________. You are____________. You are and will continue to be _____________. I love that you are teaching them to _____________.

You live and breathe this family. Everything you do, every decision you make and your hard work day after day is for us and our future. I respect that you _____________. I love that you ___________. My love for you as my husband is unconditional.

I remember when_________. You made us feel________________. I love the way you____________.  I love the times that you__________.

Thank you for your kindness and affection. Our child(ren) see that you _________. They are watching how you__________. Thank you for your patience, your never-ending support and most importantly your love. I am blessed to have you as my husband because __________.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY!

*These statements can be reworded to suit a child's father if single or divorced. This letter can also be formatted for a child to a father.

FAB Friday - There's an App for That

(This is NOT a sponsored post)

Happy Friday, Mochas!

Technically it's still spring, but ladies it is hot!  And with hot weather comes the desire to go swimming.... And look great while doing so!  Yes, the summer crunch is upon us. For me the need to burn is amplified by that sticky stubborn baby weight that I just can't seem to melt away. So what is a girl to do?  I don't necessarily have time to go to the gym everyday and I simply can't afford a trainer to bust my hump on a regular basis, so what gives?  Well, I have decided to turn to my phone in my quest for physical fabulousness.

How is my phone gonna help?   Why through apps, of course!  For instance, I downloaded the app Running for Weight Loss. It is an app that uses interval training to shock the metabolism into hyper drive. I tried the program for the first time yesterday; I normally jog about 3 miles or so, so when I saw the course I thought that it would be pretty easy. But just as I was hitting my stride, the app interrupted with instructions to walk. Literally every two minutes it's time to walk, which sounded great at first. Except after 20 minutes of all that back and forth I was frustrated, out of breath, huffing and puffing, and I had not run any further than I ever had in the past. But I was sweating - hard!  And I was more exhausted than I'd been in a long time. "This is what those results feel like", I thought. Which leads me to think maybe I'd been measuring success as a runner all wrong.  Maybe it's not the distance that's the goal, it's the effort. Maybe the run isn't supposed to an easy coast, but a bit more of a struggle that redefines my limits and leaves me changed. Maybe this running app will help me look great and figure out a couple of other important things along the way.

So today I encourage you to listen to that inner voice that tells you it's time to get summer fine. It's not too late and you don't even need a gym membership to do it. All you need is your phone and your will. You just might stumble across an app that winds up stimulating your metabolism and pushing you towards change from the inside out.

Stay fabulous!
MML,
Otise

P.S. Not a runner, don't worry.  There is a Walking for weight loss app available.

Wellness - Energy Check!

This Summer, a lot of us will be traveling places, hosting at our homes or will be invited to summer bbqs, backyard parties, pool parties, play dates, lunch dates, dinners, or simply will be getting out to visit the people we know and taking our children different places. Let's remember not only to positively enjoy the summer heat, but remember our own "Summer Energy!"

Before you present yourselves to others like your family, children, co-workers, or friends, pause for a moment to think about your energy at its current state. What state of mind are you in? Are you feeling happy, excited, sad, angry, disappointed, frustrated, stressed, cranky, melancholy, or nervous?? Acknowledge these feelings that you have beforehand, take a few deep breaths, live through them and own up to them. Release those feelings if they are negative and embrace the feelings that are positive and then share!

It's ok to share news that's important to you if you need support or are happy about! One of the key points I remember our speaker from Saturday, Abiola Abrams, saying was stay away from positive spiritual vampires!! People who will suck your positive energy dry because they always tend to dump their "stuff" on you. You may not be in the mental space to be dumped on, you may always be there to listen, but not to be drained. We must all be responsible for the energy that we bring into any space, considering those people whose space we are entering. Whether in a home, a party, phone call, email or text, physically and mentally.

This doesn't mean change who you are and how you're feeling for other people. It simply means take responsibility for your feelings and energy, expressing positivity and respecting the way you think that person you are connecting with deserves, putting yourself aside. Asking how that person is doing first, because you never know what another person is going through. Or, waiting until you, yourself are in the right head space to present yourself to others. Admit if you are wrong and apologize for non-intentions. We as moms have a lot going on, so let's not going around throwing people our fire, (esp. since summer is hot enough!) but present ourselves pleasant and well.

"Be Responsible For The Energy You Bring," a quote by Dr. Jill Taylor.

Have a beautiful sunny day!! MML!
